The cryptocurrency industry’s hopes that spot Ethereum ETFs will launch as early as this week are fading.
Industry observers aren’t so sure the Securities and Exchange Commission will greenlight the batch of applications this week.
“We’ll have to postpone our over/under until after the holidays,” said Eric Balchunas, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. She said on X.
He had previously said he expected the market watchdog to give its favourable opinion before July 4.
Balchunas changed his mind after hearing that the regulator had asked potential issuers to amend their applications. He now says the week of July 8 is more likely.
Balchunas said he expected little movement among regulators this week, ahead of Independence Day.
This is a minor setback for an industry that had hoped that the launch of spot Ethereum ETFs would lift the stagnant market, similar to what happened with spot Bitcoin ETFs earlier this year.

On the crypto betting site PolymarketBettors estimate the odds of a spot Ethereum ETF starting trading by July 4 at 4%, down from 77% last week.
The SEC has asked prospective issuers to address certain comments in their applications and resubmit them by July 8, an applicant insider said. The block June 29th.
The source told the news site that further exchanges between the applicants and the SEC are expected.
Despite the setback, Ethereum is up 3% over the weekend and is trading at $3,450.
