Sony to relaunch Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Whalefin purchased from Amber Group in 2023

Sony plans to relaunch cryptocurrency exchange Whalefin, which it bought from cryptocurrency lender Amber Group last year.
The deal was earlier reported by Wu Blockchain, and details were later revealed by the block.
Monday, Whalefin post a review this parent company Amber Japan was in the process of renaming itself S.BLOX. The notice added that the company was acquired by Quetta Web, a unit of Sony, in August 2023. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Amber Japan, formerly known as DeCurret, was acquired by crypto finance company Amber Group in 2022.

While Sony launched into Web 3 via investments and partnerships, the latest deal will mark the PlayStation maker’s true foray into crypto. The company joined forces with Astar Network for a Web3 incubation program and filed a patent for the transfer non-fungible tokens (NFTs) between different games and consoles.
Sony and Amber were not immediately available for comment.
Last year, Bloomberg reported that Hong Kong-based Amber Group planned to sell its Japanese subsidiary due to the strict regulations in force in the country.
