EIA Hosts Webinar on Energy Use in Bitcoin Mining Today – Bitcoin Magazine
Earlier this year, the Energy Information Administration tried to conduct a survey of energy use in Bitcoin mining under emergency authorization statutes, bypassing the traditional process of instituting a survey that required an open comment period from the public and industry participants subject to the survey.
This research attempt was made under very dubious circumstances and with very unsound reasoning to justify its emergency nature. Riot platforms and the Texas Blockchain Council sued to seek an injunction against research in Waco, Texas.
In the final settlement, EIA voluntarily agreed to end emergency collection and destroy all information it had received up to the time of the court ruling.
A new warning has been issued following the normal procedure of an open comment period.
Today, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Central Time, the EIA will host a webinar to discuss issues related to energy use in Bitcoin mining and information associated with the operations of mining sites in the United States.
