Democrats are pushing Harris’ campaign to ‘reset’ its position on cryptocurrencies, House representative says

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris “gets” crypto and may embrace it as an issue in her fledgling White House campaign, Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-NC) said at the Bitcoin Nashville conference on Saturday.

“We did a complete reset of the presidential election,” Nickel said, adding, “we worked hard to get a reset from the vice president.”

The comments come as 28 Democratic officials, including a dozen House members, Party leaders put pressure on Nickel said some factions of the party are pressuring Harris’ campaign to come out in favor of cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrencies remain a hot topic in the 2024 election campaign, which has already been flooded with tens of millions of dollars raised by industry leaders. Democrats have fallen behind former President Donald Trump’s promise to embrace Bitcoin and crypto advocates who have chafed at President Joe Biden’s administration and heavy-handed financial regulators.

But Trump himself has once railed against cryptocurrencies, calling bitcoin a “scam” during his last term in the White House, from 2017 to 2020. Onstage, Nickel lambasted Trump for the policy shift, drawing loud boos from the packed convention hall dotted with red MAGA hats. Trump is scheduled to speak later in the day.

This is a developing story.
